BIOGRAPHY

Artūrs Oskars Mitrevics is a Latvian conductor and collaborative pianist with a broad scope of expertise. Equally at home conducting orchestral and choral music or accompanying Lieder and opera on the piano, he navigates a broad stylistic range, from classical repertoire to premieres of contemporary works.

In the 2024/2025 season, Mitrevics returns to the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and Orchestra RIGA, engages in a close collaboration with Jorma Panula at the Panula Academy, participates in masterclasses with Johannes Schlaefli and Mark Heron, and in the summer of 2025, leads a performance of Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire as part of the Summer Night Chamber Music Festival at Zuzeum Art Centre.

Mitrevics has conducted a variety of orchestras, both in Latvia and abroad. In his home country, he has worked with ensembles such as the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra RIGA, Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, and Sinfonia Concertante. Internationally, he has participated in major competitions, conducting the London Symphony Orchestra in the Donatella Flick Conducting Competition and Orchestre Victor Hugo in the Besançon Young Conductors Competition. Additionally, Mitrevics has conducted several orchestras, including the MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Nürnberger Symphoniker, Estonian National Symphony Orchestra Sinfonietta, and Vilnius St. Christopher’s Chamber Orchestra.

After graduating from Riga Cathedral Choir School in the class of Mārtiņš Klišāns as a choir conductor, Mitrevics pursued orchestral conducting at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music with Prof. Andris Vecumnieks and at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre with Paul Mägi. His training has been further refined through masterclasses with renowned conductors, including Jorma Panula, Johannes Schlaefli, Mark Heron, Nicolas Pasquet, Ekhart Wycik, and Arvo Volmer.

Equally dedicated to music education, Mitrevics has worked extensively with young musicians. He has served as assistant conductor with the Youth Academy Riga-Rostock, Latvia’s Centenary Youth Orchestra, and has conducted several youth orchestras of Latvian music schools. In addition to orchestral work, he has coached young conductors as a pianist at Riga Cathedral Choir School and is involved with the Riga Cathedral Boys Choir. He currently teaches score reading to orchestral conducting students at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.

Alongside orchestral conducting, Mitrevics is still deeply engaged in choral music by working with Choir Sōla, an ensemble that has achieved success in international competitions. He has also been recognized in choral conducting competitions, earning second place in the 2nd International Imants Kokars Young Choral Conductors Competition and third place in the Jāzeps Vītols 6th International Choral Conductors Competition.

In addition to his work with ensembles, Mitrevics maintains a presence as a pianist, with a particular passion for the Lied repertoire. A recent highlight was a recital at Rachmaninoff’s Villa Senar in Switzerland with Latvian soprano Katrīna Paula Felsberga, where they also premiered nine works by students of Dieter Amman composition class at Hochschule Luzern. In 2023, the duo performed at the LIEDBasel Festival, receiving mentorship from Malcolm Martineau and Angelika Kirchschlager. Their collaboration continues with an upcoming recital at Palass Zofingen in Switzerland in 2025. Mitrevics also collaborates regularly with other emerging Latvian singers, including Daniils Pogoriless, Annija Kristiāna Ādamsone, and Dainis Kalnačs.
